The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s management has declared that it’s against the law for filmmakers and skit creators to use their uniforms, gear, and other items.
In an official statement by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Authority, Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager, expressed disapproval of how these creators were disrespectfully depicting the organization by utilizing its uniform without permission. He pointed out that Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 makes this unauthorized use a criminal offense.
The statement read in part, “Film or skit makers who portray LASTMA officers without applying for it, and (without) being duly issued a permit letter for such portrayals, should desist with immediate effect or face the full wrath of the law.”
He additionally urged the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners and related groups to advise their members not to violate the law. He emphasized that individuals caught using their uniforms without proper authorization would face legal action.
