Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, has blasted those who have criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the weak economy.
Speaking on Thursday at the scorecard presentation by Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammad insisted that the government has done well over the past eight years and merits another chance to continue providing Nigerians with the benefits of democracy.
“The Buhari Administration is prepared to provide Nigerians another democratic dividend,” he declared. As you are aware, the Second Niger Bridge, which has received great adulation, has been finished and will soon be put into service.
“Well, I’m glad to report that another really important bridge and road are about to be put into service. I’m referring to the 74-kilometer Nasarawa-Loko Road that connects the states of Nasarawa and Benue, as well as the 2.055-kilometer Loko-Oweto Bridge that spans the River Benue.”
For the two states specifically and the country as a whole, the road and the bridge are a game-changer and an economic booster.
“As you are aware, the administration has been criticized for performing well in the infrastructure sector but poorly in the economy.”
“With all due respect, remarks like this come from ignorance. This is because creating modern infrastructure, as this administration is doing, actually lays the foundation for both economic and social progress. Infrastructure is a crucial driver of economic development.”
The Minister noted that the newly completed Nasarawa-Loko road and the Loko-Oweto bridge have cut the journey from the Eastern part of the country to Abuja by three hours.
Because of the completion of this bridge and its access road, he claimed, “Travelers going from Enugu to Abuja today, who have no business in Lafia, can come straight to Abuja through Keffi, thereby saving three hours.”
