The Lagos State government has stressed the need to shape the ideology of millennials on electoral processes and participation, while tasking youths on re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for continuity.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, stated this yesterday, at the official launch of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Youth Professionals Support Group (BOSYOPS), in the state secretariat, Alausa.
The commissioner hinted that the group is targeting three million votes for the governor’s re-election bid, noting that since youths constitute about 65 per cent of the population, the mark is a walk over.
She said the group is committed to promoting Sanwo-Olu’s achievements through strategic deployment of skills, know-how and resources towards harnessing the youth’s segment.
She said BOSYOPS is a collection of vibrant, socio-politically oriented and technologically savvy youth who cut across all walks of life.
According to her, the group comprises young professionals, technocrats, businesspeople, social activists, advocates, political analysts, social commentators, intellectuals, and other people of similar mind, who are committed to promoting Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu (BOS) ideology and vision of making Lagos a 21st century economy.
Olusanya said part of the objectives of the project is to project BOS’ image through the grassroots with a view to building a moral followership; model Lagos, showing young achievers who are bold enough to identify with what the government is doing in the state and give their support and endorsement.
She added that the project also aimed at projecting faces of successful people who want to make a difference in the state and also intellectuals who believe in BOS ideology.
Olusanya also stressed the importance of building a strong chapter of BOSYOPS in every neighbourhood and local government.
She said: “BOSYOPS is a movement by the youths for the governor towards his re-election in office, but more importantly to harness the energy of the youths towards ensuring that a greater Lagos agenda is implemented and becomes a reality.
“The youths constitute over 65 per cent of the population, they decide what happens in major sectors of the economy, that’s why we have come together to push the narrative particularly around the achievements of the governor across all the sectors for people to be aware and be beneficiaries.
“Our target is three million votes. The youth constitutes over 65 per cent of Lagos’s population; this means that we have the numbers. If we’re able to have a group of 100,000 people and each one of us through our network are able to bring in 30 people, we would achieve the three million votes target. This is possible. This is doable because the energy in the room and the spirit of Lagos indeed is each and every one of us.
“I implore you, let us put our voices together so that we can be heard. We have resources and assets towards the implementation of this programme. This will be deployed across the various communities and local governments appropriately.”
