Prominent Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has advocated for the elimination of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), citing security concerns.
She emphasized that the program’s purpose has been undermined by the government’s inability to ensure the safety of corps members.
Sharing her own experience as a former corps member, Henshaw mentioned the privileges she enjoyed, such as carefree travels and the benefits of having an NYSC ID card, during her service. She expressed her views on her X platform on Wednesday, saying: “When I served in the North, it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe, and then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me a rebate on my ticket.
“It’s time to SCRAP this idea since corpers can’t travel within this country without LET OR HINDRANCE!
“Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas.
Security is a priority & needs to be sorted out totally, not technically. “
