On Thursday, Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, pledged to address the state’s economic and security challenges by implementing cost-cutting measures and abandoning extravagant lifestyles. In a bid to cope with the emergency situation, he directed newly inaugurated commissioners to utilize their existing vehicles as official cars.
Additionally, the governor established a Trust Fund to provide support to the underprivileged and vulnerable individuals in the state, aiming to mitigate the impact of the oil subsidy removal. He further committed to donating half of his salary to contribute to the fund.
He said: “We count on you to bring your experience and competence to bear on governance in the state. You are coming into our administration at a period when we are confronted with serious economic and security challenges. Creative and innovative steps are being taken to address the challenges.
“Our President took a hard and painful but necessary decision to remove fuel subsidy. We are therefore in a period of emergency. We must cut down on the cost of governance, and ostentatious lifestyle.
“All commissioners must use their old vehicles. If we led by example, our people would follow. Excuses for lacklustre performance will not be accepted; we shall strictly assess you based on performance indicators. Anyone who fails to measure up shall be shown the way out.”
The newly sworn-in commissioners for Kaduna State include prominent figures from various fields. Among them are Hon. Abdullahi Aminu Shagali, former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, appointed as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development; Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello as Commissioner for Education; Hajiya Imma Kaltume Ahmed as Commissioner of Health; and Sadique Mamman Lagos as Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Shizzer Nasara Bada, a former Accountant-General of the state, takes on the role of Commissioner of Finance, while Barr. Sule Shuaibu, a former State Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, becomes the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. Other commissioners include Malam Murtala Dabo (Commissioner of Agriculture), Hon. Mukhtar Ahmed Monrovia (Commissioner for Planning and Budget), Hajiya Rabi Salisu (Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development), and Hon. Abubakar Buba (Commissioner for Environment).
Additionally, the list includes Mrs Patience Fakai as Commissioner of Business, Innovations, and Technology; Arch. Ibrahim Hamza as Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure; and Prof. Benjamin Kumai Gugong as Commissioner of Sports Development. However, Auwal Musa Shugaba and others were not present at the swearing-in ceremony.
