Former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba retires from the Spanish national team after almost 12 years as an international and 93 games and 10 goals with the senior team.
He communicated his decision to Spain coach Luis de la Fuente when leaving Barcelona and sign for Inter Miami.
Alba has been a fixture with Spain since he made his debut on October 11, 2011 at the hands of Vicente del Bosque, who sent him on in a match against Scotland qualifying for the 2012 Euros.
He also participated in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups and in the 2016 and 2021 Euros, in addition to playing the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Alba has been capped 93 times by Spain after making his senior debut against Scotland in October 2011.
He was part of Spain’s Euro 2012-winning squad and scored in the 4-0 victory over Italy in the final.
Alba captained Spain to their 2023 Nations League triumph in June following a penalty shootout victory over Croatia.
The defender joined Inter Miami in July after 11 years at Camp Nou, reuniting with former Barcelona team-mates Messi and Sergio Busquets.
