On Monday, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue took the decision to dissolve the governing council of Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, with immediate effect.
According to a statement released by his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, a seven-man visitation panel has been formed to conduct an audit of the university’s operations starting from 2016, which was when the previous panel visited.
“The panel is to comprehensively investigate activities at the institution and report back accordingly for necessary action(s). Other terms of reference for the panel are contained in the letter conveying the decision of the visitor,” the statement partly read.
The panel was composed of Gabriel Moti serving as the chairman, with Simon Orkuma as the secretary. The members included Kwaghkondo Agber, Peter Igyeigye, Christie Ekoja, Sam Yuhwa, and Okpe Okpe. Sabastine Hon, on the other hand, chaired the council that has now been disbanded.
