On Thursday, a tanker went up in flames in Ijora Pallete Junction beside Lagos State Homes Estate at Ijora Badiya.
The incident which took place around 1:30pm on Thursday, involved a tanker carrying 20,000 metric tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas.
According to eyewitness, some passers-by noticed a leak in the tanker and notified the driver. The driver responded by using a fire extinguisher on the leaking part, only for the tanker to explode.
Although no life was lost in the incident, as fire fighters and some police men from the nearby police station quickly sprung into action.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, South-West Zonal Office, National Emergency Management Agency, “It was revealed that the driver was trying to negotiate a safe corridor to park and take care of the leakage but, along the line, the explosion occurred near some makeshift shops by the roadside.”
