Former Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan as been shot in the leg.
Supporters have claimed the incident was meant to be fatal, an assassination attempt. He was leading protests for snap elections in the capital of Islamabad on Thursday when the incident took place.
Reports say the gunman has been arrested, while Khan was able to wave to the rallying crowd after the attack.
Azhar Mashwani, an official with Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, confirmed to Al Jazeera on Thursday that the politician was shot in the leg but was not in danger. Six others, including politician Faisal Javed Khan, were also reportedly injured in the attack.
Khan has since been rushed to the hospital in Lahore. In the mean time, no group has come forth to claim the attack, and the identity of the attacker is still not clear.
