Arsenal Legend, Ian Wright has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay the Super Falcons following their outstanding performance in the penultimate game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, wherein they came from behind to defeat the co-host – Australia 3-2.
The Falcons had gone behind in the 1st minute of 5 minutes added time of the first half, only for Uchenna Kanu to poke home a deflected shot from Atletico Madrid forward Rasheedat Ajebade at the climax of the added time, further goals from Osinachi Ohale and Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala gave the 9time WAFCON champions a healthy lead, until the Matildas set up a nervy ending with a goal inside 11minutes added time.
In his tweet, Ian Wright wrote “pay them!!!!!!! NFF”, this followed the earlier fiasco which heralded the tournament over payment of match bonuses and alleged poor preparation by the coach Randy Waldrum.
The Falcons would now play again on the 31st of July, 2023 against the already eliminated Republic of Ireland.
