The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has directed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay former head coach of the Super Eagles $378,000 compensation fee.
The NFF had said back in December that the sack of the German tactician was necessary in order to avoid a “disaster.” But FIFA has revealed that the Nigerians are owing Gernot Rohr after terminating his contract, which contravened the agreement between them.
During his time as coach, the 68-year-old led the Super Eagles to the AFCON and the World Cup, albeit struggling to qualify them for the 2022 Cameroon AFCON.
The NFF had agreed to pay Rohr’s salary until the end of his contract, which will expire in December 2022.
Rohr who was replaced by Austin Eguavoen who is now set to be replaced by another foreign coach, dragged the glasshouse to the world governing body of Football.
Rohr has been granted $377,879.46 from his initial $1.2 million, sought total after a FIFA tribunal decision saw his claim to be “partially accepted insofar as it is admissible”.
The ruling by FIFA added that the NFF would be sanctioned if Rohr was not paid in full within 45 days.
“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid.”
