According to Abubakar Malami, Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Nigeria has recovered funds stashed abroad by dishonest government officials, including £6.3 million, €5.4 million, and $390,000.
On January 12, during a ministerial scorecard of the Justice Sector from 2015 to the present, Malami made this statement.
According to him, the Ministry has recovered sums totaling $390,000,000 (three hundred and ninety million dollars), £5,494,743.71 (five million, four hundred and ninety-four thousand, seven hundred and forty-three euro, seventy-one cents), and £6,324,627.66 (six million, three hundred and twenty-four thousand, six hundred and twenty-seven pounds, and sixty-six pence) from a variety of jurisdictions.
A portion of the seized monies is being used to finance important infrastructure projects, including as the Abuja-Kano Expressway, Second Niger Bridge, and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.The minister added that between 2015 and the present, the Buhari administration sold forfeited assets to raise N1.8 billion in local currency.The forfeited properties have so far brought in a total of N1,823,788,146.86 (One Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty Three Million, Seven Hundred & Eighty Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Six Thousand Naira, Eighty-Six Kobo), according to the minister.
