Enugu Rangers and Bendel Insurance will renew their rivalry in what could be a repeat of the 1978 and 1981 FA Cup final when they clash in the final of this year’s edition.
The Flying Antelopes booked their place in the final of the Federations Cup after they edged fellow NPFL side Plateau United in the semifinal played in Ijebu Ode on Thursday.
Bendel Insurance however needed the lottery of penalty shootout to overcome Nigeria National League (NNL) side Warri Wolves 4-2 i
to reach the final after they had played out a goalless in the semifinal match played at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium Lagos.
This would be their third meeting in the Federation Cup finals after their 1978 and 1981 clashes.
With both teams claiming victory apiece, Insurance were champions in 1978 after triumphing 3-0 against Rangers, but the “Flying Antelopes” revenged three years later with a two-nil victory.
Bendel Insurance reached the final after recording unbeaten run in the abridged Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.
The 2023 Federation Cup final will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
The winner of the final will pick the second ticket to represent Nigeria at the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup
