Defending Liverpool progressed into the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup courtesy of a second leg lone goal by Midfielder Harvey Elliott which helped the Reds knockout Wolves 3-2 on aggregate on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the replay in Moulinex after drawing 2-2 in the first leg at Anfield a fortnight ago.
The team in Red started brightly on the night when their early press was rewarded after teammate Thiago Alcantara picked out Harvey Elliott in the middle of the pack.
The 19-year-old England U21 midfielder who scored his first goal for Liverpool in a fourth round tie last season, then went on a solo run as he produced a howitzer which went into the top of the net after Wolves goalkeeper, Jose Sa was way off his line to give Liverpool a one goal lead in the 13th minute.
Liverpool never sat back after going one goal up on the night, a goal from Fabio Carvalho was disallowed for offside 10 minutes before the break as the away side held on to a halftime win.
The second half resumed with the host on the front foot, the side who has scored the least in the league this season couldn’t continue their good run of form in the cup where they scored two goals in the first leg.
Liverpool defended deep in the closing minutes as they bounced back from a 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday and moved into the fourth round.
The FA holders will hope to make it into the quarter finals of this year’s competition as they now return to Amex Stadium
in the fourth round to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday January 29.
