Manchester United failed to lay a strong claim on their title push with a 2-2 home draw against strugglers Leeds United in a league fixture at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
United were without Casemiro for the visit of their historic rivals, as the Brazilian was sent off against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Casemiro will now serve a three-match ban fell behind after just 55 seconds from Kickoff through a goal from Leeds forward Willy Gnoto to give the away side the lead.
Becoming the faster goal Manchester United have conceded at old Trafford since Edin Dzeko’s 43rd seconds striker in a Manchester Derby in 2014 as the away side held on to a 1-0 lead into the break.
Two minutes after the restart, the away side then doubled their advantage after a Rapheal Varane own goal in the 47th minute.
Marcus Rashford’s excellent scoring run continued as the English international connected with a cross to half the scoreline in the 62nd minute of the encounter and notched his 22nd of the season.
Jordan Sancho after missing in action since October then drew level for the host 11 minutes after coming onto the pitch, the 22-year-old forward received a pass from Luke Shaw before curling his low shot past helpless Illan Meslier.
The results ended Manchester United’s 13 games winning streak at home and further dent their title aspirations as they now sit 7 points off top having played two more games than leaders Arsenal.
