Chelsea dealt a huge blow in their Top four push as they were held 1-1 away to 18th place Nottingham Forest on New year’s day.
The blues went into the encounter eight points adrift of fourth place Manchester United knowing that a win would close the gap to five points.
Graham’s Potter’s men started the game on a bright note, dominating position pushing forest back to their goal.
Chelsea possession and pressure paid off as England’s Raheem Sterling scored his fourth goal of the season just after 16 minutes of play to give Chelsea the lead.
Nottingham Forest held on as Chelsea pushed for a second in the first half as the two times Champions League winners took a one goal advantage into the break.
The second half was all Forest, the host reminded Chelsea of their home presence as they came back into the game after a few personal changes, thanks to manager Steve Cooper.
Nottingham Forest restored parity through Ivorian defender Serge Aurier three minutes apart at the hour mark, after a poor clearance by Chelsea from a corner kick.
Despite Chelsea’s late pressure which saw substitute striker Aubameyang missing a sitter after being put through by Hakim Ziyech, saw the London team settling for a point.
The draw means Chelsea have now taken just six points from their last seven league games.in the league.
They sit on eight position on the league standings after 16 games played.
