To encourage interfaith discussion and peaceful coexistence in the nation, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has encouraged Sen. Ahmed Tinubu to establish a Ministry of Religious Affairs.
At the Interfaith Facilitators’ Guide’s launch, which was sponsored by ActionAid Nigeria, Bayero made the call on Friday in Kano.
Babba Dan-Agundi, the district head of Nasarawa, was the emir’s representative, and he stated that the ministry would be responsible for encouraging religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
Kano, in his words, is a haven for peace, harmony, and peaceful coexistence where adherents of different religions cohabit without hostility.
“Peace is an indispensable aspect of creatures on the planet, and there is a compelling need for it to be safeguarded,” he said.
Additionally, the interfaith facilitators’ guide will aid in addressing violent extremism in the state and the nation as a whole, according to Dr Muhammad Mustapha-Yahaya, executive director of the Dispute Resolution and Development Initiative.
He said: “Violent extremism is on the increase in different parts of the globe, hence measures need to be taken in ensuring that the menace does not escalate in Kano State and other parts of the country.”
