On Monday, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State mentioned that the government requires 1 billion Naira to restore power to certain local government areas that have been without electricity for a decade.
Additionally, an agricultural processing zone will also be connected to the national grid. Oyebanji disclosed that the state’s 3.5MW Independent Power Plant project is almost complete, aimed at providing electricity to government offices and educational institutions in Ado Ekiti and its surroundings.
He added that efforts are underway to reconnect Ikogosi, Erijiyan, and the Ikogosi Resort Centre to the national grid, which will boost the state’s tourism sector.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement event in Omuo Ekiti, part of Ekiti East Local Government area, the governor marked his 300 days in office by giving an account of his administration’s progress. He also urged the people of Ekiti to avoid actions that might hinder the performance of his appointed officials.
His words: “We are reconnecting Ikogosi, Erijiyan and Ikogosi Resort Centre back to the national grid to enhance the state tourism corridor. We need N1bn to reconnect Ayekire, Ekiti East Local governments and their LCDAs after 10 years of darkness as well as Agriculture Processing Zone at Ikole back to the national grid.”
Oyebanji mentioned that his administration will strategically focus on rebuilding and rehabilitating roads for the purpose of advancing his prosperity agenda. He assured that priority will be given to roads that strongly align with this agenda.
“My government has supported 1,566 farmers with both production assets and small-scale processing equipment and likewise providing 25 per cent subsidy tractorisation to farmers,” the Governor added.
