Traders and business owners in Lagos were allegedly forced to close their businesses and turn up for Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign rally which held on Saturday.
This was confirmed by Azeez Olajide Adediran Jandor, the Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the PDP.
Switch Nigeria saw a video of a man announcing on Friday that the market will be shut down, making the attendance of the rally compulsory.
Further investigation into the incident revealed that attendance of those present at the rally will be taken and those who failed to attend will be penalised with charges amounting to N5,000.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Azeez Olajide Adediran said, “Today, markets across Lagos have been forced to close with all Traders mandated by Governor Sanwoolu government, to attend the APC presidential rally for Bola Tinubu happening today. I have received reports that traders have been threatened with retributive violence from APC sponsored thugs if they refuse to comply.
“This kind of wanton abuse of power is synonymous with the APC’s leadership in Lagos and symbolic of the corruption that plagues our state. It is criminal to deny citizens the right to go about their business and against the rule of law to coerce them to join political rallies. I condemn the actions of Governor Sanwo of Lagos state.
“Real change is coming, and we must start to model this change by challenging directives by the Lagos state government that contravene established laws. Together we will end this era of impunity and usher in a breath of fresh air.”
