Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Thursday, cut short his engagements in Abuja, following the killing of Miss Deborah Samuel, a student of the College of Education, Sokoto.
Tambuwal, after cutting short the visit, returned to Sokoto where he held a closed door meeting with heads of security agencies in the state as well as the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Fr. Nuhu Iliya at the Government House.
The details of what transpired at the meeting is expected, but not available at the time of filing this report.
Recall that Deborah was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and thereafter beaten to a pulp.
From a video clip of the incident, stones were hurled at the young lady by young boys. Some also used sticks and different objects to hit her.
When the victim fell to the ground unconsciously, the attackers gathered tyres around her before she was set ablaze.
The institution has since been shut down indefinitely.
The barbaric incident has been recieving widespread condemnation from celebrities, including famous comic skit maker, Mr. Macaroni.
This is not the first time Christians would be killed as a result of religious intolerance in northern Nigeria.
In 2007, a female teacher, Mrs Christiana was also killed and set ablaze in Gombe State over accusation of tearing the Quran.
In 2016, an elderly woman, one Mrs Bridget Agbahime was killed and set ablaze in Kano, over allegation of blasphemy.
