Data has revealed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has allowed ASUU strike to last the longest since democracy returned in 1999.
In the data chart released by Pulse, during the reign of late Umaru Yar’Adua, ASUU went on strike twice, during which time students were at home and the universities were shut for 127 days.
However, things go worse when Jonathan succeeded him in 2010. Under Goodluck Jonathan, Nigerian University students spent 359 days at home on three different ASUU strike actions.
Meanwhile during General Olusegun Obasanjo’s(retired) 8 year regime, students went on strike seven times, which translated to 541 days.
The Buhari-led administration has witnessed the worst. During his tenure, universities have been shut 4 times, during which time students have spent over 570 days at home.
