Aston Villa have signed midfielder Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal from Barcelona for an undisclosed fee in the region of £17M. Barcelona will retain a 50% sell-on clause.Barça bought the Brazilian from Liverpool for £147M and sold him for £17M, losing a whooping £130M.
The midfielder’s move to the Camp Nou didn’t go exactly to plan and it was followed by a loan spell at Bayern Munich in 2019, where he went on to make 23 appearances scoring 8 goals.
He returned to Barcelona in 2020 where he stayed but still found games hard to come by, coupled with injuries, till January 2022 when he joined up with former Liverpool teammate, Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.
Philippe Coutinho has agreed to a huge pay cut of over 70% and was desperate to stay at Aston Villa. He now fits in with the clubs wage structure.
