Southampton bounced back from their defeat to Manchester United to clinch all three points against Chelsea.
New signing, Raheem Sterling continued his goal scoring spree, when he opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, making it his third goal in two games.
But Chelsea’s lead lasted for our five minutes, when in the 28th minute, Belgian teenager, Romeó Lavia drew the Saints level.
Adam Armstrong then scored Southampton’s second of the night as Ralph Hasenhűttl’s men mounted pressure on the Chelsea defence made up of returning Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Marc Cucurella and Azpilicueta.
Nigeria’s Joe Aribo came on late on but didn’t do much to improve his side’s tally.
This is Chelsea’s second defeat in the first five games of the new campaign, haven previously fallen to Brentford also. Like Chelsea, Southampton have also won two, drawn one and lost two.
Both teams have the same number of points, with with Saints currently a place above Thomas Tuchel’s men in 7th.
