Chelsea traveled to Goodison Park on Sunday hoping to consolidate on third position but instead found themselves unable to breakdown a very resolute Everton side.
Both sides played out an average first side where the home side had the better chances, as Thomas Tuchel’s men failed to register a shot on target.
The home side on the other hand were comfortable to just sit and defend, while replicating the the theatrics that undergirded their 2:0 loss against bitter neighbours, Liverpool just a week ago.
A buzzing Goodison Park cheered every act, every interception and booed every Chelsea touch and Frank Lampard’s tactics worked a treat.
And immediately after the restart, Richarlison gave the home side the lead with a fine finish after captain, Azpilicueta failed to clear a Rudiger pass on time.
Chelsea brought in Pulisic, Ziyech and Kovacic with the hope to shore up the attack but a well coordinated Everton, led by a very good Jordan Pickford who made stellar saves, were able to see out the game.
Chelsea remain on 66 points, just six above a resurgent Arsenal side, who will reduce the gap to just 3 points with a win against West Ham later on Sunday night.
Everton on the other hand remain in 18th place, 3 points behind Leeds and Burnley, with a game in hand, and now have 32 points.
