Chelsea showed their guts to win the first FIFA Club World Cup against Palmeiras in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night.
It was the European Champions’ first Club World Cup title. But they had to fight hard to win a game that had few chances.
Romelu Lukaku had opened the scoring for the London side before the Brazilians equalised from the spot, after Thiago Silva was judged to have handled the ball in the box.
The game would eventually head into extra time, where Kai Havertz who was the hero in the Champions League Final against Manchester City, converted the winner from the spot after Luan Garcia blocked Azpilicueta’s goal-bound shot with his hand.
“We are the champions of Europe and now the champions of the world, and it is an incredible feeling,” said Havertz after the match.
