The 22-year-old caught the eyes of Chelsea while on international duties with Argentina at the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar last December.
His goal and two assists helped Argentina to their third world cup title, whilst he was crowned young player of the tournament in Qatar.
His deal is worth £105m which is a British record for a Midfielder and it’s set to be paid in three different installments.
Enzo Fernandez will also sign a deal until 2031.
Todd Boehly’s Blues want to structure that release clause fee in instalments, as paying in one go has Financial Fair Play and tax implications.
Chelsea have been in talks to sign the Argentina World Cup winner throughout this month but Benfica had refused to do business unless the Blues pay the €120m (£105.6m) release clause.
