British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson Announces his Resignation

After months of his people’s call for his removal, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has announced that he will be stepping down as his party’s foremost leader.

Johnson has been involved in a string of scandals, one of which was his December 2020 ‘Bring Your Buzz Party’ he organised for over 20 members of his cabinet at the height of the COVID pandemic, after he ordered the shutdown of the nation.

His resignation is coming after dozens of members the Conservative Party, of which he’s the leader, resigned. In addition, members of his own party have also been requesting he stepped down.

His resignation as the Party’s leader also means he will soon be ousted as the Prime Minister of his nation.

Making the announcement before members of the press in front of his official residence, 10 Downing Street, Mr. Johnson thanked Britons for giving him the opportunity to lead them.

“It is clearly now the will of the parliamentary Conservative Party that there should be a new leader of that party, and therefore a new PM,” Johnson said, thanking voters for what he called an “incredible mandate.”

“The reason I have fought so hard in the last few days to continue to deliver that mandate in person was not just because I wanted to do, so but I felt it was my job, duty, obligation to you to continue to do what we promised,” Johnson said.

“As we’ve seen at Westminster, the herd instinct is powerful, and when the herd moves, it moves. And my friends, in politics, no one is remotely indispensable, and our brilliant and Darwinian system will produce another leader equally committed to taking this country forward.”
