Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Saturday, thanked delegates and party stakeholders following the victory of Senator Kashim Shettima at the primaries for Borno Central Senatorial election.
Shettima won unopposed with 479 votes cast by delegates at an election that took place at the APC’s State Secretariat in maiduguri, the state capital.
Zulum expressed appreciation to the delegates in a short speech immediately after Shettima was declared as the unopposed winner for giving Senator Kashim Shettima the mandate and trust to return and represent Borno Central at the Red Chambers for the second time.
“Let me express my sincere appreciation on behalf of my Boss, Senetor Kashim Shettima, to all the party stakeholders for giving him the mandate to continue with the good work that he has been doing”, Zulum said.
The governor also commended and expressed his deep appreciation to the Chairmen and members to Borno APC Senetorial primary election committees for the Central, South and Northern primary elections.
Even though Shettima was unopposed, Honourable Musa Mahmoud, Chairman of Borno Central APC Senatorial primary election committee, 2022, explained that the delegates opted for voting through casting, before he declared the results.
“Consequently, on the authority of the National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency Abdullahi Adamu, I hereby declare, having satisfied all extant laws, the electoral act, 1999 as amended, I Hon. Musa Muhammad, Chairman APC Borno Senatorial election committee 2022, declare Senator Kashim Shettima as the winner of Borno Central Senatorial election”, the Committee Chairman declared.
“The primary conducted in Borno Central on Saturday, which is today, was unopposed. Article 20 clause A, clause 3 of the APC constitution empowers us to either conduct the election by voice vote or actual casting of vote, but we chose to cast votes.”
“I hereby declare as follows:
total accredited voters, 480, total votes cast 479 and invalid – 1.”
Borno APC Chairman, Hon Ali Bukar Dalori, lauded Governor Zulum for standing by the party and making sure it remains united. He also lauded Senator Kashim Shettima for the good work he’s been doing at the National Assembly.
Dalori thanked the stakeholders and delegates for remaining calm, resolute and voting in to enable the party field the best candidates in the fourth coming 2023 general elections.
