French Midfielder, Blaise Matuidi has called an end to his prestigious football career as a player at age 35.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Winner with France in Russia made the news public through a 34 minute interview which can be found on YouTube.
He also added a short note alongside the link to his full interview on his official Twitter handle which reads;
“Football, I loved you so much. Football, you have given me so much, but the time has come to say stop. I fulfilled my dreams as a child, my dreams as a man. It is with a tight throat but with pride that I turn this page today.
” THANK YOU ❤️”
Matuidi began his football career playing for amateur clubs in the Île-de-France region, such as US Fontenay-sous-Bois and CO Vincennes. In 1999, then in 2004, he signed with professional club Troyes and made his professional debut in the 2004–05 season.
Since making his Professional debut, Matuidi has played for Saint-Étienne, Paris Saint Germain and Juventus from 2004 to 2020, winning 21 trophies in those seven years.
Before his retirement, Matuidi left Europe to the United States of America to play for new found David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS) where he made 47 appearances from 2020-2021.
He made his international bow, playing for France in the Youth level for the U19 and U21 before he was called up to the senior team for the first time by new manager Laurent Blanc for the team’s friendly match against Norway on 11 August 2010.
