Nigerians have taken to social media to serenade late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on the 12th anniversary of his passing.
Yar’Adua was declared winner of the 2007 Presidential election on 21st April 2007 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
And died on 5th May 2010, just three years into his four year tenure, after a protracted illness that led to made him travel the world for medical purposes.
Before he was President, Yar’Adua was governor of his home state of Katsina between 1999 and 2007.
In 2009, Yar’Adua left for Saudi Arabia to receive treatment for pericarditis. He returned to Nigeria on 24 February 2010, where he died on 5 May and was buried the next day according to Islamic rites.
He was survived by his wife, Turai, and nine children. His Vice, Goodluck Jonathan assumed office, completed his tenure and went ahead to win reelection in 2011, till 2015 when he was replaced by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nigerians see him as Nigeria’s best head of state, because during his 3-year reign, people could see him deliver on his campaign promises captured in his famous 7 Point Agenda.
