Again, two court cases came up today, Thursday, 4th August 2022 at Federal High Court 3 holden in Abuja, against the candidacy of Benue State APC Governorship candidate, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
The cases were between PDP & Uba V INEC, APC, Alia & 13 Others, viz Suit No.FHC/ABJ/ CS/826/2022, while the second with Suit No. FHC/ABJ/ CS/ 877/2022 was between Mike Kaase Aondoakaa(SAN) v APC, Alia & INEC. Both lawsuits were brought up solely for mentioning.
The People’s Democratic Party in Benue State has been fighting tooth and nail to have Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia disqualified from contesting next year’s gubernatorial elections.
However, all parties were absent in court bar a few defendants, while majority were accordingly represented by their various counsels.
While S. T. Hon(SAN), Harris Ogbole(SAN) et al. appeared for the plaintiffs, S. I. Ameh(SAN), F. B. Mnyim et al. appeared for some defendants.
Presiding judge, Justice A. R. Muhammed adjourned both cases to August 30, 2022 and September 1, 2022 respectively.
According to Kulas Tersoo, Justice Muhammad directed all parties to file all process and counter processes including hearing notices within the period and prepare for proper hearing on the adjourned day.
He also cautioned that since the matter is time bond and the new practice direction forbids counsels from seeking more than two adjournment, his court will not entertain any flimsy excuses to proceed with the business of the day on the adjourned day.
