A pregnant woman, Tabitha Azahan has been shot while on her way to Gbajimba, headquarters of Guma local government area of Benue State.
The incident happened on Thursday night, April 28th.
This was disclosed in a terse statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Nathaniel Ikyur.
In the statement, which Ikyur titled, “FULANI AGAIN’, said the woman was returning back from Daudu to Gbajimba on a motorcycle around 8pm.
The body of the statement, which did not particularly mention or say that the attack was carried out by Fulani herdsmen, said the incident happened between Kaseyo and Torkula when she was ambushed and shot at.
According to the statement, she was then taken to Gbajimba General Hospital around 11pm for medical attention where doctors have been giving her the needed attention to save her life.
“Sources said she was shot through the right hip through the abdomen, injuring the uterus,” the statement reads briefly.
“Doctors attending to her at the hospital said the fetus is already dead as the bullets had cut the intestines in several places.
“They explained that they had to deliver the baby via CS, repaired and anastomosed the bowels.
“They hinted of a suspicion of a fracture of the right hip bone.”
This particular incident comes weeks after men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Tior-tyu community of Guma local government and killed over eleven people.
The incident left the state in shock, even as there was heavy traffic along Gboko-Makurdi highway, as aggrieved villagers blocked the road in protest.
