Sadio Mane has been ‘temporarily suspended’ by Bayern Munich after he was involved in a heated bust-up with teammate Leroy Sane, according to reports.
German publication BILD suggest the Senegalese international, who trained with the Bundesliga side on Thursday, will be suspended until further notice as they consider a final decision.
It comes after Sane and Mane clashed both during and after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The pair reportedly had an argument on the Etihad pitch in the 83rd minute, when Mane ran into space for a through ball instead of coming short to receive the ball.
After the full-time whistle, former Liverpool forward Mane complained about how the German winger spoke to him. He then attacked Leroy Sane and punched him in the face, according to BILD.
In fact, they had to be separated by their teammates before Sane was then told to leave the dressing room.
Eyewitnesses said Mane’s blow left a mark on his face, with The Athletic suggesting Sane was left with a bloodied lip following the altercation.
It has also been suggested that Sane tried to cover up the injury as he made his way onto the team bus on Wednesday.
TikTok user @Ejcclips posted footage alongside the caption: “Leroy Sane covers face following reports of being punched by teammate Sadio Mane.”
Mane was expected to make an apology in Bayern training on Thursday as he trained alongside former Manchester City winger Sane, who was one of the best performers on a disastrous night at the Etihad.
Bayern Munich have since released an official statement on the matter.
They wrote: “Sadio Mane, 31, will not be in the FC Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday.
“The reason is misconduct by Mané after FC Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mané will receive a fine.”
