Bukayo Saka has been awarded the PFA men’s Young Player of the Year award for his displays during the 2022/23 season. Having been nominated on three occasions previously, the 21-year-old’s exploits during last season were too good to be ignored this time around by his peers, with members of the Professional Footballers’ Association voting for the winner. Spanish midfielder Fermin Lopez has signed a new contract with Laliga champions FC Barcelona this summer. Lopez signed a four year contract with the Catalans which will expire in 2027. His buyout clause has been set at €400 million. The Barcelona academy product made his official first team debut for the club in the 4-3 win over Villarreal on Sunday, August 27 at El Madrigal. Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has agreed a deal a move to Serie A outfit Roma this ongoing summer transfer window. The 30 year old is about to move from Chelsea to Roma on a season long loan. He was loaned to Serie A club Inter Milan last season. Chelsea Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella has been linked with a move to Premier League club Manchester United this current summer transfer window. Cucurella has found game time hard to come by since Chelsea signed new coach Mauricio Pochettino this summer. For the 11th time in 19 editions, Team Nigeria is returning home from the World Athletics Championships without a medal after the country’s contingent failed to make it to the podium in Budapest, Hungary. The team’s medals hopes were pinned to the shoulders of long jumper, Ese Brume and sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan. Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has praised the Reds resilience in their 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, August 27 at St James Park. Anthony Gordon scored the first goal of the game for Newcastle in the 25th minute of the encounter. Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was on target for Napoli who defeated Sassuolo 2-0 in Sunday’s Serie A game. It is now three goals in two games for Osimhen, who finished top scorer to help Napoli win the league last season. Osimhen’s goal, which was the opener in the win against Sassuolo was his 100th club career goal. He put his side ahead in the 16th minute as he converted from the penalty spot. West Ham United have announced the signing of Black Stars of Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus from Eredivisie giants Ajax. The Hammers had to beat off competition from some of Europe’s leading clubs to secure the services of Kudus. Kudus joins the Irons on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee, becoming the Club’s third major summer signing.
