Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated ex-Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election.
Atiku, who is also the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), congratulated Tinubu in a tweet on his verified twitter handle on Wednesday.
Tinubu was declared winner at the APC presidential primary election at Eagles Square, Abuja on Wednesday.
He polled 1271 votes in total to clinch the ticket ahead of former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi, vice president Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Ameachi got 316 votes, the closest to Tinubu, while Osinbajo, wildly thought to give the former Lagos governor a tough run, came third with 235 votes and Lawan polled 152 votes.
While congratulating Tinubu on his victory, Atiku said for the APC national leader to have prevailed in the hard-fought contest tells of his tenacity.
His tweet reads, “Congratulations, @officialABAT, on your emergence as your party’s presidential candidate. It has been a hard-fought contest, but that you prevailed confirms your tenacity. -AA.”
Recall that Tinubu had in May 29th, congratulated Atiku when he won the PDP presidential primary election.
In his congratulatory statement, Tinubu said, “I look forward to squaring up with him as a worthy opponent in the coming election. I have known the former Vice President as a formidable politician and a patriot who believes in the unity and progress of our dear country.”
Tinubu will be squaring off against Atiku of (PDP); Peter Obi of Labour Party, and other candidates in the 2023 presidential election.
