Aston Villa ended their 27-year winless run at home against Manchester United, with Unai Emery’s side taking all-three points in his first match in charge at Villa Park.
The former Arsenal coach could not have asked for a better start, with Bailey and Digne both finding the back of the net in the first 11 minutes to give the hosts a lead and some cushion.
An unlucky own goal from Ramsey on the stroke of half-time reduced the deficit at the interval but the winger was determined to make amends, scoring a screamer four minutes after the restart to restore the two-goal advantage and add a strike to his earlier assist.
Ten Hag’s side offered very little going forward despite the deficit, with a slow and disjointed attack failing to ask Emiliano Martinez many questions. The win puts Aston Villa into 13th, while Manchester United temporarily stay fifth.
Ronaldo wore the armband in the absence of Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernández but failed to inspire his side.
Before today, the Red Devils were unbeaten in 23 away league games at Villa – the longest unbeaten away run a team has had against another in English league history.
