Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League after goals from Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus helped them beat Chelsea 3-1 on Tuesday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned to the Chelsea side to face his former club as the Gunners aimed to move back to the top of the Premier League with a win.
The ex-Arsenal captain has not started a game since November 6 – also against his old team – but was recalled as Frank Lampard aimed to end an eight-game winless run for Chelsea.
Noni Madueke was the second change as Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher missed out.
Arsenal themselves showed three alterations from their 4-1 humbling at Manchester City, former Chelsea man Jorginho coming in for Thomas Partey as Jacob Kiwior was handed his full league debut.
Leandro Trossard was also brought in as Gabriel Martinelli dropped to the bench, with Arsenal hoping to win a first in nine games.
Arsenal started the better of the two sides and would deservedly take the lead through captain Martin Odegaard, whose rising effort went in off the underside of the crossbar as the Gunners hit the front.
Odegaard would strike again to double the lead, again having far too much space in front of the Chelsea goal to this time stroke home another Xhaka centre.
Things got even better for Arteta’s men when they added a third just three minutes later, Gabriel Jesus finishing from close-range after the ball popped up to him in the box.
Chelsea pulled a goal back, just their second in eight games, as Madueke bundled the ball home after skipping inside Oleksandr Zinchenko.
