Osun State Government has said it approved the use of Osogbo Township Stadium for the All Progressives Congress presidential rally holding on Thursday.
In a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed, obtained on Wednesday the government recalled that the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, did not approve such usage for the Peoples Democratic Party when he was in power.
It explained that the stadium was approved to manage the tense security atmosphere in the state and directed security agencies to ensure maximum security at the venue of the rally.
“Consequently, the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has directed the state police command and the Department of State Services to enforce state directives to ensure peace and tranquility across the state. Additionally, the state governor further directed Osun indigenes to remain peaceful and calm while at the same time warning against any attempt to create conflict,” it further read.
Meanwhile, the government called on residents of the state to stay away from the presidential rally of the APC.
“The APC has imported their agents of death. There is the likelihood they may engage in fights and brawls. It is important for our people to stay safe, away from the assemblage of evil hands,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the leadership of APC in Osun had accused the PDP and Adeleke of planning to abduct some principal members and families of the party in the state. The plan, the party alleged was to unsettle APC for the general elections.
The state acting Chairman of the APC, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement also said Adeleke and his party members should know that no amount of undercurrent scheme would secure for him the governorship election having lost his case before the tribunal last Friday.
Lawal enjoined the state police command and other security agencies in the state to take a notice of the “diabolical intention” of the embattled governor and find a credible way of nipping the inglorious and nebulous plan in the bud.
Lawal pledged to use all available constitutional means to expose the intentions of Adeleke and his lieutenants designed to create more tension in the land.
The statement read in parts, “The earlier Adeleke retraces his step in the use of some notorious political hoodlums in this state to abduct, maim and attack our members and our families, the better it would be.”
