No fewer than 11 people were found dead in the Benue community of Tior-tyu when men suspected to be Fulani herders attacked on Monday night.
The incident left the State in shock, even as there was heavy traffic along Gboko-Makurdi highway, as aggrieved villagers blocked the road in protest.
According to an eyewitness who sent in a video explaining the attack, about 7 men, 2 women, and a child were killed by the herdsmen.
The people of the community have since blocked the road using the corpses, allowing only vehicles coming from Gboko thoroughfare. The residents are demanding the presence of Governor Samuel Ortom, who lives in the state capital, Makurdi, about 30 minutes drive from the affected community.
Attacks on Benue communities by Fulani herders have become common place, since the beginning of the President Muhammadu Buhari regime.
