Alex Iwobi left the field on a stretcher during the second half of Everton’s FA Cup third-round tie with Manchester United.
The Nigeria international was replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure after just 51 minutes of the tie as he was involved in a heavy tackle with United full-back Tyrell Malacia.
The 25-year-old Nigerian international who has been one of the Blues’ best performers so far this campaign, looked to be in a state of distress as he was lifted onto a stretcher by medics after a prolonged period on the ground, and soon pulled his Everton shirt over his face.
Captain of his side Seamus Coleman was one of the first Everton players to respond as he quickly signalled for further help from the Toffees’ medical department while comforting the midfielder who lay in agony on the turf.
Everton Manager Frank Lampard while speaking after the game said Alex Iwobi sustained an ankle injury as a scan to know the length of his injury will be carried out on Saturday.
“We hope it’s not too serious. It looks like an ankle ligament injury. He will have a scan tomorrow to confirm,” Lampard stated.
