The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has made an urgent appeal to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and halt the implementation of certain policies that may further impoverish Nigerians.
The organization expressed concern over the planned increase in electricity tariffs, the introduction of fees for vehicle owners’ proof of ownership certificates, and other policy decisions by the Tinubu administration.
Afenifere cautioned that these measures could lead to higher prices of goods and services, worsening the already difficult situation for the masses. While acknowledging the potential long-term benefits of these policies, the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Jare Ajayi, called on the government to provide some relief for Nigerians in the short term.
The organization stressed: “The need to ensure that the people are not squeezed out of breath before that good time comes, as it’s only a person who is wholesomely alive that would enjoy the largesse of tomorrow!”
Additionally, Afenifere advised the President to exercise caution and refrain from actions that could diminish his administration’s popularity among the people.
Ajayi emphasized the importance of Tinubu being aware of any actions taken by government agencies that could undermine his well-intentioned efforts for the country.
