According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, a credible supplementary gubernatorial election would be held in Adamawa State, as the commission promises that the election will make the public and the international community proud.
In response to some women staging a protest at the commission’s offices over the Adamawa election on Saturday in Abuja, Mr Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of INEC and Chairperson of its Information and Voter Education Committee, provided the assurance.
Recall that the margin of votes the candidates received during the poll, which was held last Saturday in the state, led INEC to earlier declare the result inconclusive.
The panel determined that the number of votes that were not counted during the election exceeded the margin of victory between Senator Aishatu Binani of the PDP and the PDP candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri.
While addressing the protesters, Okoye said a new date would be fixed for rerun elections in areas where the exercise did not hold or were not conclusive.
He said: “We regard our role in INEC as public trust; any individual, group or organisations with any grievance or complaint is free to come here and voice or ventilate their grievances.
“We will go back and give the people of the state the opportunity to have a conclusion relating to their governorship election.
“The commission will go back to Adamawa and conduct a supplementary election that Nigerians and the international community will be proud of.”
