The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, better known as San Siro is set to be completely demolished.
The both teams occupying the ground, AC Milan and Internazionale(Inter Milan) have agreed to do away with the iconic stadium and build another super stadium on the same site.
The new stadium which will be called ‘The Cathedral’ will reportedly cost £1 billion.
The San Siro broke ground in 1926 and has since underwent series of renovations in order to bring it to modern-day standards.
The stadium which has a capacity of 80, 000, will be done away with after it hosts the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
However, the demolition and subsequent commencement of the new 60, 000 capacity stadium will not proceed until a public debate is done.
The San Siro is owned by the City of Milan.
