On Tuesday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) submitted exhibits to an Abuja High Court, linking former Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP), Abba Kyari to drug trafficking offences.
The exhibits submitted included $61, 400(N25, 505, 560) and 24 packs of cocaine.
According to the NDLEA, $61, 400 is the alleged amount he(Kyari) used in bribing the NDLEA officers who nabbed him, whilst the 24 packs of cocaine were at the crux of the trial.
The Agency said Kyari tried bribing its senior officer at a restaurant in Abuja, in order to divert them from testing the cocaine that was being imported by the two drug peddlers, but later seized.
The prosecution called forward its third witness, Peter Joshua, a Chief Superintendent of Narcotics and an exhibit officer attached to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the agency, testified that the defendant tried bribing him with the cash on January 25.
This he said, was after he weighed and carried out initial tests on the bags of cocaine, belonging to Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwane, who are co-defendants with Kyari.
Besides the cash, the NDLEA, also through Joshua tendered 24 packs of cocaine that were handed over to it by the Kyari led IRT.
The cocaine was brought before the court in two travelling bags.
