On Thursday, the organized labor in Lagos said they were behind Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu and would not back the Labour Party or any of its candidates in the state during the upcoming general elections.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Lagos State have dumped the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi as they throw their weight behind the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
On Thursday, the organized labor said they were behind Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu and would not back the Labour Party or any of its candidates in the state during the upcoming general elections.
The statement was made at a protest called “Labour 4 Sanwo-Olu” held at the Police College in Ikeja by the worker’s union chapters in Lagos state, according to Leadership.
It was the first time that the state’s labor unions would come out in support of any political party’s candidates, according to Agnes Funmilayo Sessi, the leader of the NLC in the state and the person who drove the union’s members to the demonstration.
The NLC leader claimed that after initially being undecided, the unions have decided to take matters into their own hands by endorsing Governor Sanwo-campaign Olu’s for a second term in office as well as other APC candidates, including Tinubu for president.
“Today is not the day for speeches since we all agreed before coming here,” she stated. We’ve held congresses, and during those meetings, significant decisions were made. We just intend to present it to the public. Let’s show the world what we’ve done well in our home.”
“This is the first time that Labour in Lagos State has publicly endorsed any candidate from any party in order to come out and show support and unity. We’ve never carried it out before. However, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the reason we are taking this action.
“Some people might be surprised why we come out; we are not politicians. We have only been sitting on the fence but this time around we want to be part of it so that we can be part of the government. We have come out with our full chests because this government has done good things for us.”

Similar to this, Gbenga Ekundayo, the chairman of the Lagos State TUC, remarked, “There is no need to beat around the bush. You heard it clearly. When we encounter Mr. Governor, he always responds to us. Inclusion is key to democracy.
