According to The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria must construct a minimum of 3.9 million toilets each year to achieve the target of becoming open defecation-free by 2025.

Dr Jane Bevan, UNICEF’s Chief of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), emphasized the urgency of this matter during the opening of the two-day Toilet Business Owners Conference in Abuja on Monday.
The current annual toilet construction rate in the country is estimated to be between 180,000 and 200,000, which is deemed insufficient.
Dr Bevan highlighted the significance of the conference, stating that toilet business owners play a crucial role in addressing the open defecation challenges in Nigeria.
