Four-time Nigeria Premier League winners – Kano Pillars, has taken the first step to promotion into the 2023-24 NPL season with a decisive win over EFCC FC.
The Sai Masu Gida as they are commonly called clinched the first maximum points of the Nigeria National League promotional playoffs, following a Willam Sunday’s 47th-minute goal in a rainy Stephen Keshi Memorial Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
The game commenced in the morning on Sunday, with Kano Pillars and EFCC FC opening the promotional playoffs in front of elated fans and journalists in Asaba.
The team’s head coach – Evans Ogenyi will be the most joyous owing to his objective of returning Sai Masu Gida to the top-tier league after their one season down the pecking order in the Nigeria National League.
According to the Daily Post in March, Evans was quoted as saying “The players know what is at stake for us this season. Winning promotion back to the NPFL (now NPL) is the mission and it is good that we started the season with a win.”
