
The captain of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Daniel Bameyi has apologised to Nigerians for the 2-0 defeat against Brazil on Saturday night.
The two-time first runners-up suffered a 2-0 defeat to the 5-time World champions on Saturday in the final group game in La Plata.
The defeat dropped Flying Eagles to the third position which surprised many football fans across the country.
After the game, Bameyi tendered an unreserved apology to the country and promised that the team will bounce back strongly.
“It was disappointing that we lost and we wanted to win to keep our winning record, but that’s football.
“We’re sorry we lost, while we appreciate the support of Nigerians and we will bounce back”, he said.
Bameyi was part of the Super Eagle team during the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
