Lionel Messi Sets Record as PSG lifts 11th Ligue 1 title

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has broken Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals scored across Europe’s top five leagues.

Messi netted his 496th goal to help PSG win the Ligue 1 title on Saturday.

The 35-year-old opened the scoring in the second half, finishing off Kylian Mbappe’s pass.

PSG ended up drawing the game 1-1 as Kevin Gameiro scored an equaliser for Strasbourg.

A point was all that the hosts needed to confirm their place in the top flight for next season, and they duly held on for the draw, much to the delight of a sell-out crowd at Stade de la Meinau.

It’s Messi’s second league title in France, and he will have one final home game to extend the record come next Saturday when Clermont Foot come to the capital.
