CAFCC: Rivers United Through To The Quarter-finals with 2-2 Draw Against Disables Noirs

Nigeria Professional football League champions Rivers United have qualified to the quarter finals of the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup after earning a point at home 2-2 to Congolese side Diables Noirs.

The matchday five fixture which took place at the Nest of Champions in Uyo Akwa Ibom state, saw the hosts sealing qualifications to the last eight with a game to spare.

Diables Noirs who were victorious in the first leg 3-0, took the lead through an Emmanuel Appiah own goal in the 28th minute.

After playing majority of the game chasing it, Rivers United then restored parity in the 73rd minutes through Nwangwa Nyima.

The 29-year-old Nigerian then put the hosts in front for the first time our minutes later with a well timed finished.

The away side then responed instantly four minutes after the restart, as Congolese Deo Bassinga who scored a Hat-trick for Congo in the game against Tunisia at the just concluded U20 AFCON scored to leveled the tie 2-2.

A Dramatic encounter which was silence for over 50 minutes saw three goals in the space of eight minutes as both teams shared a point in the end.

The draw means that the NPFL champions are through to the quarter-final with one Matchday left in group B with the pride of Rivers having gathered 10 points from a possible 15 after 5 Group games.
